Recent studies show that while many major brands have blogs, Twitter, YouTube and Facebook accounts, few are using existing email marketing campaigns to promote their social media pages.

I wonder why…if a business is going to take the time to setup accounts, grow followers and friends, and post relevant content, why not use every possible means to share links to Facebook, Twitter and YouTube and cross promote on each?

Social media use is growing and more people are spending more time on sites like those mentioned above, but many people just don’t think to search for their favorite brands on those sites.

The internet has so many distractions that it’s imperative to reach out to your email subscribers and invite them to join you where they hang out online…at social media sites.  Or ask your Twitter or Facebook friends and followers to sign up for your email newsletter.

For example, I’m a big fan of Pizza Hut…always have been.  I get emails from them on occasion and several months ago became their “Fan” on Facebook.  But it wasn’t until yesterday that I found them on Twitter.  I don’t know what kinds of marketing messages I’ll get, but it is interesting to see how big companies use social media venues to promote their products and services.

So, if you have social media accounts for your business, are you making calculated attempts to draw your current email followers onto your social media accounts?  The more venues you position yourself on, the more people you have the potential to reach.

And in the age of connecting online, you want to make sure your business can be found where your target customers are, whether it’s email, YouTube, Facebook or Twitter…or all of the above.
